Join us to celebrate summer reading by watching movies based on The Great American Read, a list of America’s 100 most loved books. We’ll be showing a series of films based on the books. This month we’re showing Ready Player One, directed by Steven Spielberg. This movie is based on the award winning novel, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

Rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action violence, bloody images, some suggestive material, nudity and language.

Learn the basics of word processing in this introductory class. This class will cover formatting text, saving a file, how to copy and paste, as well as other useful fundamentals. Familiarity with using computers and mice is necessary. You may bring your own laptop (with Word already installed) or use one of ours.

Summer Latin Course

Join us this summer to learn classical Latin! This weekly class is great for beginners or for those seeking to brush up on their skills. In just three months, you’ll learn Latin vocabulary and see how much of the English language is derived from Latin, plus you’ll learn many fascinating aspects of daily Roman life and Roman mythology.

The study of classical Latin exercises memory, increases English vocabulary, and broadens general knowledge. Using the textbook Ecce Romani I (provided for free to each student), you’ll learn Latin vocabulary, English vocabulary derived from Latin root words, Latin & English grammar, & translation skills. Knowledge of Roman geography, history, daily life, & mythology will be enhanced through English or Latin readings and activities. The Latin meanings of certain common abbreviations and phrases used in English, such as e.g., A.D., et al., ad hoc, status quo, and tempus fugit, will be featured weekly. Depending on interest and available space, classes may continue September through May.

NOTE: Interested participants should be prepared to commit to attending all of the sessions.

Books ‘n’ Brews Book Club (OFFSITE)
