6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for the first meeting of the Lock Picking Club. Lead by Jim Davis, the club is an informal learning and discussion setting where attendees are anywhere from novice to expert lockpickers. All are encouraged to bring their own locks and lockpicks as well as any relevant equipment. Attendees should have a way to identify their equipment. Jim and the library will provide a limited amount of picking resources for those who do not have much or any equipment.

The goal of this club is for everyone to share ideas, tips, tricks, challenge each other to open custom pinned locks, and expose everyone to as wide a variety of locking mechanisms and lock picking techniques as possible. Ideally, attendees should have some lockpicking experience, but newbies will not be turned away.

Bestseller Book Club: Educated by Tara Westover

Saturday, January 26

3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Have you ever thought about joining a book club? It’s a fun way to get connected, make new friends, and read more books! In the Bestseller Book Club, we’ll be reading and discussing newly released, highly rated books from a wide variety of genres. This month we’re reading Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES, WALL STREET JOURNAL & ONE OF PUBLISHERS WEEKLY’S 10 BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR

An unforgettable memoir about a young girl who, kept out of school, leaves her survivalist family and goes on to earn a PhD from Cambridge University

“Beautiful and propulsive . . . Despite the singularity of [Tara Westover’s] childhood, the questions her book poses are universal: How much of ourselves should we give to those we love? And how much must we betray them to grow up?”—Vogue

Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home.
