During this half day session we will be using an array of materials to create different types of slime – colored, sticky, soft, filled with glitter and more. Each session, we will introduce a different maker component and will then work on solo projects or together to create something tangible that you can then continue from home.

Annual Holiday Gift Basket Sale: Provided by the Friends of the Blackstone Library

The Friends of the Blackstone Library’s annual Holiday Gift Basket Sale kicks off on Thursday, December 6th from 5 to 8 PM, with complimentary champagne and holiday cookies in the lower rotunda at the Library.

Shop for ready-made and wrapped, themed baskets designed for holiday giving. You’ll be sure to find specialty foods, children’s items, entertainment, gardening supplies, kitchenware and more! All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Library programs and services you have come to love.

Want to help? Donate items for the sale by Friday, November 30th! Just drop them off at the Library.

Half Day with Marbled Paper: K thru 4th Grade (Lucy Hammer Room)

Let’s get down and dirty with some DIY marbled paper! In this half day activity children will work with shaving cream and water colors to create unique designs. Once the paper drys we will use a combination of markers and construction paper to create our very own holiday cards. This tactical experiment just might become the perfect gift.

Pom Pom Friends: 3rd thru 6th Grade (Lucy Hammer Room)

In this hands-on craft participants will work with a combination of different colored yarn to create Pom Pom Animals. The process is simple but patience is necessary as we spool yarn, cut tiny ears, eyes and mouths in hope of making a combination of animal friends. Everyone is guaranteed to leave with a completed Pom Pom Pal, which can be transformed into a miniature puppet, key chain or ornament.

Gingerbread Construction: K thru 4th Grade (Lucy Hammer Room)

This month we are taking candy canes, gum drops and frosting to the next level by constructing our very own graham cracker gingerbread houses. During this program everyone will start with the same basic design but will work on their own to create doors, windows, home decor and more! The Library will provide all the necessary crackers and candy embellishments. All you need to bring is a brain ready to design. We will be sure to take a photo of everyone’s creation at the end.

Happy NOON Year – Babies thru Age 5 (Reading Room)

Can’t stay up till midnight? Well don’t worry! The James Blackstone Memorial Library knows exactly how to make a New Year’s Eve splash with our NOON Year’s Eve Party! This event is for babies thru age 5 and their families and will include traditional storytime elements like: singing, dancing and reading but will also include special activities like: decorating your own party hats, a balloon drop, as well as also a countdown to NOON, 12PM with all the bells and whistles. This is definitely something you do not want to miss.

It’s time to learn a little bit about electricity as we bring 2-D pictures to life with LEDs, copper tape and coin batteries. With use of these materials participants will be able to “shed light” on their projects by creating switches and brightening hearts, eyes and letters. The combinations are endless all you need to bring is your imagination.

Children and caregivers will experience a half hour of play with Miss Mary that will lead into singing, dancing, and rhyming. A themed storytime will follow along with a paper based craft.

Join us every Saturday in the preschool room for a different simple cut, paste, and color craft along with a variety of picture books that have to do with the crafts topic! Coloring pages are included and  the craft is setup all day, so you can stop in at any time. For those on a tight schedule simply grab that weeks craft and go! Registration for this program is not required.
