There are also a couple of interactive websites that you can use on your home computer to work on phonemic awareness and comprehension for emergent readers.
Bembo’s Zoo – An interactive animal alphabet book, perfect for preschoolers and caregivers!
International Children’s Digital Library – An online library that hosts 5,000 color filled children’s digital books in 50 languages. The site is free but registration allows you to cater it to your language preferences, provides recommendations and bookmarks your reads.
myOn – Branford Public School’s virtual eBook program that suggests titles based on personal interest and reading level. Quizzes to test comprehension and reading growth charts for caregivers are accessible. If you do not know your login or password simply ask your teacher for assistance.
Starfall – Interactive eBooks, phonemic awareness activities and games for emergent readers.
Storyline – Created by the Screen Actors Guild, a series of amazing actors read fantastic children’s books through the power of animation. Activity guides for caregivers are included and you can always stop by the Youth Services Department to checkout the real thing.
Storynory – A free downloadable audio library filled with original stories, classic fairytales, myths and verse. Check in with the site weekly for a fresh new tale. Translations in various languages are available.
StoryPlace – Is an interactive site provided by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library that has created eBooks, games, printable activities and reading lists for various reading levels. This site is also accessible in Spanish.
