We Have Apps and Lots More.
The Youth Services Department currently has access to 20 iPads filled with kid, teen and adult friendly apps, eBooks and games. These iPads are meant for in-house use only; meaning you cannot check them out because the library needs them for children’s, teen and adult programs. When we are not using the iPads for programming anyone is welcome to check one out for personal use or exploration with their children as long as the iPads remain within the library.
Information about how to use an iPad in the library can be found here.
Right now the Youth Services Department is offering two distinct iPad programs.
The first, Tablet Tales, is meant for children ages 3 to 5 and intermingles iPad exploration with traditional storytime practices. The program is meant to introduce children and parents to different early literacy apps, give families an opportunity to explore new technologies together and most important, build upon pre-literacy skills.
Age appropriate apps:
- Engage children on a multi-sensory level.
- Help to develop fine motor, language and cognitive skills.
- Promote enjoyment of learning through collaboration and discovery.
The second, Teen Advisory Board, is meant for teens in middle school and up. During these technology based meetings the group will come together to experiment with new apps, different forms of technology and computer software and will then discover ways these forms of technology can be used to benefit the library as well as the community. Right now we are looking for participants that are not only interested in experimenting but also sharing their technological skills with others – almost like a technology coach! Those that are tech savvy and interested in joining the club should contact Miss Carly in the youth services department.
Our iPad programs and number of apps offered are always growing! If you have any suggestions of apps that you have enjoyed in the past please do not be afraid to share.
Information about when these programs take place can be found on our calendar. Please note that these programs require registration so that we can plan accordingly.
