August 20: In just a few short weeks, the new entry will be complete. The non-fiction collection has moved to the 1st floor, and the new teen room will also be finished in September. Staff are busy making furniture selections, computers are being installed in the new lab, and it won’t be long until the project is finished. We are still on track for completion in late December/early January.
Due to construction in the lower rotunda next Wednesday, most of the library collection will be unavailable. This includes all adult fiction and nonfiction, large print, DVDs and CDs. Please note that NO items will be due back at the library that day – please enjoy anything you have checked out for an additional day.
The children’s space in the auditorium, the teen area in reading room, newspapers, magazines and computers in the reference area will all be available.
Items on hold WILL be available for pickup. Please place any holds by the end of the day on Monday, June 24, to be picked up on Tuesday/Wednesday.
We are sorry for any inconvenience and deeply grateful for everyone’s patience!
June 7 – Marble for the new entry was delivered from the Tennessee Marble Company today. This is the same quarry that supplied the marble for the original construction in 1893. Summit Masonry will be working hard on the installation in the coming weeks. The entry is scheduled for completion in August. Thanks to Downes Construction and Silver/Petrucelli + Associates for a great project so far.
April 22: The outline of the new entry and rooftop terrace are visible, and walls are coming up! If you blink, you may miss the progress as changes are happening every day. This phase of construction is scheduled to be complete by summer of this year, with the rest of the project finished by year’s end.
The renovation is progressing on schedule and walls to the new entry are starting to take shape. Please note that the library will be closed on Friday, March 22 as sanitary lines are excavated and repaired. Closing is necessary as the parking lot and bathrooms will be unavailable. No items will be due that day – thank you for your patience.
During the week of January 7 – 11, the Youth Services Department will move into the Auditorium for the duration of the project. This move will take a few days and we ask for your patience as some materials may take longer for us to find until we are settled in.
This week our construction manager at risk, Downes Construction Company, installed their Field Office Trailer on site. In the next few weeks, entry to the building from the back parking lot will be directed through the staff entrance next to the book drop. The front entry and steps will remain unchanged throughout the project.
