Support the Blackstone Library 2014 Annual Fund

What is the role of a library in the electronic age? Ten years ago, who would have predicted the impact that e-books, smartphones and tablets would have on our access to information? With just a few taps we have the entire world at our finger-tips. Movies, music, books and newspapers all fit into our pockets. In fact, the James Blackstone Memorial Library has served the Branford community through a century of changes that have completely revolutionized our society; the invention of radio and television, our move from cities to suburbs and back again, air travel. Each time, the library has adapted to not only remain relevant, but to actually become more relevant.

Today, the James Blackstone Memorial Library is so much more than books and collections. We have adapted to the electronic age in ways that many of Branford’s residents do not even realize. Did you know that our card holders have access to current online magazines, streaming independent films and more e-books than ever right from home? We have even incorporated iPads into story times this winter, and we are exploring ways that iPads can enhance programs for adults.

Still, many things do remain constant. The Blackstone will always be a place that fosters a love of reading in young children and teens. Adults can take advantage of resources such as computer skills training, career development and programs ranging from app tips and tricks to opera appreciation. More than ever, we are the preferred space for community meetings, cultural programs and local activities.

The James Blackstone Memorial Library has been a vibrant hub of the Branford community for over 100 years. Today, because of generous donors like you, we continue to be relevant and vibrant.

Please show your support for the Blackstone today. By making a gift to our 2014 annual fund you are investing in our community in a meaningful way, for the present as well as the future.
