Half Day with the Sugar Cube Challenge K thru 4th Grade (Lucy Hammer)

Half Day with the Sugar Cube Challenge K thru 4th Grade (Lucy Hammer)

Wednesday, February 26

3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

The Library is your destination on early release days since we will be featuring a different hands-on project that anyone can jump into. This time we are putting the pedal to the metal and creating teams of two for a sugar cube challenge! In this challenge participants will have to build the biggest structure possible with sugar cubes BUT here is the catch, since there always is a catch. One person will be the worker and the other the coach. The coach has to guide the worker in his/her structure building since they are blindfolded and can only use their less dominate arm. There are sure to be some fumbles in this team building event.

Registration for this program is required. To do so, please call 203. 488. 1441. ext 321 or click here.

This program is made possible by the Friends of the James Blackstone Memorial Library

Cosplay Club

Cosplay Club

Last Wednesday of the month

Wednesday, February 26

5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Interested in cosplay? Not sure where to start?

Mature teens and adults are invited to join veteran cosplayer, Denny McDermott, for a monthly opportunity to show off your latest creations, get tips and tricks from fellow cosplayers, use the library’s sewing machines and 3D printer (free!) and work together on building costumes for cons, ren fairs, LARP, and everyday life!

Cosplay, or costume play, is a unique art that combines costuming, sewing, arts and crafts, and acting. Because cosplayers don’t just get into costume–many get into character! Learning to become your favorite historical figure, cartoon, superhero, or other famous figure takes time, dedication, and talent. But there are a lot of inside tips and tricks that can make it a less expensive (and more fun!) hobby!

Denny has been cosplaying for a number of years, and primarily focuses on female costumes. Her most popular are Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls and Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled, but she has played other roles, as well. She is also a photographer and creative writer, which she incorporates into her character play.
