Read to a Dog: Building Literacy Skills with Pet Partners – K thru 4th Grade (YS Programming)

Wednesday, March 4

4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Pet Partners is working with the library to provide therapy dog read-aloud sessions for children in K thru 4th Grade. The program will run for an hour and a half once a month where participants can read aloud to a dog of their choice with a book provided by the library or from home. All participating dogs have been vetted through the Pet Partners program; which means they have passed all of their therapy dog training, are up to date on their vaccines, and have experience working with a range of people and ages.

Research shows that children reading aloud to dogs rather than humans reduces stress and creates a slight gain in reading ability and attitude toward reading in general. Most children are calmed by a dog’s presence and are more apt to read aloud since they know the dog will not be judgmental.

Registration for this program is required so that we can plan accordingly. To do so please call 203. 488. 1441. ext. 321 or click here today.
